Il a tissé de nombreux liens avec l'association suisse de hockey permettant à de nombreux hockeyeurs en herbe des Comores d'aller s'entrainer dans les structures des grands clubs helvétiques. En échange, ces derniers offriront les services de leurs jeunes talents à la franchise insulaire. Dès l'hiver 2008/2009, les Islanders auront l'honneur de participer à la prestigieuse Spengler Cup qu'organise le HC Davos. La 2e compétition de Ice Hockey la plus ancienne après l'illustrissime Stanley Cup. Un privilège accordé par le club grison grâce aux excellentes relations entre les deux clubs. Ancien de la NHL et des franchises américaines des Los Angeles Kings (2005-2007) et des Detroit Red Wings (2001-2005), et de son club formateur des Edmonton Oilers (1991-2001), où il passa la plus part de sa carrière, le Renard de l'Alberta, comme il est surnommé le plus couramment, est un attaquant toujours aussi redoutable malgré un âge déjà important dans le monde du Hockey. Etant le joueur le plus doué techniquement et le plus expérimenté de la franchise insulaire, les dirigeants du club ont du sortir le porte-feuille pour le sortir de sa retraite californienne. Attiré par le dernier, et sans doute le plus excitant challenge de sa carrière, Wesley n'a pourtant pas été très regardant vis-à-vis de son salaire. Un type bien, honnête, un excellent hockeyeur, une leader charismatique propulsé au rang du Grand Messie de l'archipel entière une fois qu'il eu signé son contrat avec la franchise insulaire.
